Terms of Use
Last updated 17 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Linli Ge, trading as OurPlaces (“OurPlaces”, “we”, “us”). They set the ground rules for using OurPlaces. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them.
Who can use OurPlaces
You must be 18 or over to use OurPlaces, and by creating an account you confirm you are. One account per person: don’t create an account for someone else or share your login.
Your account
Provide accurate information, protect your login details and tell us if you think your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account.
Using the app
Use OurPlaces lawfully and respectfully, for your own personal use. Do not attempt to disrupt the service, access another person’s account or private data, automate abusive requests, upload harmful material, or use the app to harass or mislead others.
Keeping OurPlaces safe
You must not post, send or share anything that:
- is illegal, or encourages or helps anyone to break the law;
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone;
- is hateful or discriminatory, or promotes violence;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises children in any way;
- is a scam or spam, misleads people, or impersonates someone;
- shares someone else’s private information without their permission;
- infringes anyone’s copyright, trade marks or other rights.
You can block anyone to stop them contacting you. In a group chat you’re both in, their messages stay, but they no longer notify you.
Reporting
You can report a post, comment, message or group chat, a profile or a shared collection from its menu, even after you’ve blocked someone. Choose the reason that fits best and add any details that would help. If you report something as illegal, we’ll ask what makes it illegal and for you to confirm you’re reporting in good faith. We never tell anyone who reported them.
Anyone, with or without an account, can also report illegal content by emailing hello@ourplaces.app, saying where it is and why you think it’s illegal.
If it’s an intimate image of you, or of someone you act for, shared without consent, say so when you report it. By email, also give a way to contact you and confirm you’re reporting in good faith. We look at these first, and take the image down, with any copies we find on OurPlaces, within 48 hours of your report.
How we handle reports
We review every report ourselves; nothing is decided automatically. We confirm we’ve received your report in Activity, or by email if you reported by email, and say when to expect a decision:
- within 24 hours for child safety, threats or violence, self-harm and intimate images;
- within 48 hours for something illegal, hate, harassment, scams or fraud, and sexual content;
- within 7 days for everything else.
We decide whether it’s illegal or breaks these terms. We may remove it, warn the person responsible, stop them posting, commenting and sending messages for 7 or 30 days, or close their account. We then tell you whether we took action, though not what we did about someone else’s account. You can turn off updates about a report.
We tell the police when someone’s life or safety is at risk. When the police or the National Crime Agency ask, we keep a report and what it concerns for longer.
Illegal content
Terrorism. We don’t allow anything that promotes or supports terrorism or a proscribed organisation. We decide reports about it within 24 hours, remove it, close accounts run by or for a proscribed organisation, and tell the police.
Child sexual exploitation and abuse. OurPlaces is for adults. We don’t allow anything that sexualises children, or any attempt to contact a child for sexual purposes. These reports always come first: we decide within 24 hours, remove the content, close the account, and report it to the National Crime Agency, as the law requires.
Other illegal content, such as threats, hate, harassment and stalking, intimate image abuse, sending sexual images to people who didn’t ask for them, scams, and offers of drugs or weapons: we decide within 48 hours, or 24 hours for threats, self-harm and intimate images, and remove it as soon as we’ve confirmed it.
Our word filter
To keep slurs and hate terms off OurPlaces, a filter checks the words in posts and the places they show, comments, bios, names, usernames, group chat names, and collection names and descriptions, when you save them. If it finds one, it stops that change and says which words to take out. It doesn’t stop ordinary swearing, never removes anything already shared, and never decides anything about your account. It’s the only automated tool we use to moderate what people share. If you think it stopped something it shouldn’t have, email hello@ourplaces.app and we’ll look.
If we take action
We’ll tell you what we did and why, in Activity and by email: what we restricted and for how long, the facts we relied on, the rule or law it breaks, that a person decided it, and how to appeal. We may not tell you if the police ask us not to, or if it’s spam sent at scale.
Appeals and complaints
If you think we got a decision about your content or account wrong, you can appeal once, within six months, from its notice in Activity. If we’ve closed your account, reply to our email or write to hello@ourplaces.app. We look at it again and decide within 14 days, undo anything we got wrong, and tell you what we decided.
You can also complain about how we handled a report, about our word filter or about how we keep OurPlaces safe, by emailing hello@ourplaces.app. We reply within 30 days. If you live in the EU, you can also take a decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body. You can always go to court, for example if you think we restricted something in breach of these terms.
Your content
You keep ownership of notes, posts, photos, collection descriptions and other original content you add. You give OurPlaces a limited licence to host, process and display that content only as needed to run, secure and improve the service and to share it according to choices you make, including showing posts to the audience you choose. You’re responsible for what you post, and must have the right to share it.
A post you delete disappears straight away and is deleted from our systems 30 days later, unless a report or the police need it. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, comments, likes, saved posts and follows are deleted, and so are your one-to-one conversations, for both of you. Messages you sent in group chats stay in the chat, without your name. Copies of shared collections that other people saved stay with them. If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them without owing you anything.
Sharing and collaboration
Check the audience and access level before sharing a collection. Owners control membership and editor permissions. Editors may change shared collection content; viewers may view it. Changes made by authorised collaborators form part of the shared collection.
Place information, Google Maps and other services
OurPlaces includes Google Maps features and content. Your use of them is subject to the current Google Maps End User Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Maps, ratings, photos, opening information and other place details may come from third parties and can be incomplete or out of date. Verify important details with the venue. Signing in with Apple or Google, and other links and integrations, are governed by the relevant third party’s terms.
Our app and brand
OurPlaces, its name, logo, design and software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app. Don’t copy, scrape, resell or reverse engineer it, or use it to build a competing service, except where the law allows.
Availability
We work to keep OurPlaces reliable, but may change, pause or discontinue features for maintenance, safety or product reasons. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service or that every imported place or public list can always be resolved.
Free and Pro
OurPlaces is free to use. Pro is an optional paid plan with extra features, such as more collections, more Google Maps imports, and every Shuffle filter. The app shows what Free and Pro include, and the current prices, before you buy. We may change plan features, Free limits or prices, but a change never deletes content you already have.
Payments and subscriptions
- Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store and charged to your Apple Account. Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions also apply.
- Pro monthly and Pro annual renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown in the app, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. Apple charges your Apple Account within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your OurPlaces account doesn’t cancel it.
- Free trials and introductory prices are for eligible people, and Apple allows one introductory offer per person for Pro. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before a free trial ends, the subscription starts and you’re charged. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- If a subscription price goes up, Apple tells you in advance and asks for your consent where its rules require it.
Founder
Founder is a one-time purchase that gives you Pro, with no renewal charges, for as long as OurPlaces offers Pro. If we ever plan to stop offering Pro, we’ll tell Founder members at least 12 months beforehand. If something outside our reasonable control, such as a change in the law or losing a service OurPlaces relies on, means we can’t, we’ll tell you as soon as we can. Only a limited number are sold. Founder belongs to your OurPlaces account and can’t be transferred. If a Founder purchase is refunded, Founder access ends.
Refunds
Apple handles payments, so refund requests go to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple’s terms also explain any right to cancel a purchase within 14 days that applies where you live. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
If Pro ends
Your places, collections and notes stay, and you can keep viewing and editing them. Creating more than Free allows, such as a sixth collection, needs Pro again, and Shuffle’s filters switch off.
Apple App Store
If you got OurPlaces from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for OurPlaces or its content and has no obligation to provide support for it.
Ending use
You may stop using the app or delete your account at any time. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel it in your Apple Account first. We may restrict or close accounts that materially breach these terms, threaten other users or the service, or create legal risk. Where it’s safe to, we’ll warn you first and tell you how to ask us to reconsider.
Responsibility
We’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We’re not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable, for business losses (OurPlaces is for personal use), for your experiences at venues, or for decisions you make based on suggestions or third-party information in the app.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited, and nothing affects your statutory rights. Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of £100 and what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We’ll tell you about meaningful changes in the app at least 30 days before they apply, unless a change is needed sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account before the change applies, and cancel any subscription in your Apple Account.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If something goes wrong, please contact us first: most problems can be sorted quickly. If not, you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts there. If you live in the EU, you also keep the protection of your country’s mandatory consumer laws, and you can bring a claim in its courts.
Contact us
Email hello@ourplaces.app, or in the app go to Profile → Settings → Help & feedback → Send feedback. That address is also our point of contact for users and authorities under the EU Digital Services Act. We communicate in English.
